Hold Yer Horses, Pardner!
I feel so blessed to have had an opportunity to collaborate with Cody Spencer and creating this book together. UCSD Extension’s Arts and Humanities Department contacted some of us who had just recently completed their Children’s Book Illustration program, and they told us about this young author, just 13 at the time, who was looking for an illustrator for a book he was writing for the Young Entrepreneurs Program.
It was a lot of fun visually bringing his characters to life. I was pulled out of my comfort zone and spent a lot of time studying characteristics of the wild west like landscapes, buildings, plants, clothing, etc. It was tremendous fun and I enjoyed the process very much. And after several months of working together, we were able to finalize and publish “Hold Yer Horses, Pardner!” on Amazon.

Tales From Wiggleberry
This was a fun book to illustrate. Carrie Dawn, the author, has a fun and wacky imagination! I had a good time drawing all the different characters and settings. I got a chance to draw gardens, kitchens, a diner, a bakery, and even a carnival. There’s a lot going on in this book!
Carrie taught children literacy and has a passion for education. I’m so happy to have had this chance to collaborate with her. It’s always a privilege to be a part of someone’s passion project, and this was one of hers. This is book one of a series, so there will be more to come.
